Pau - Pyrenees MARC (E.) Hunting sketches. Le Drag de Pau. Paris, imp. Becquet, sd. (circa 1860). In-4 oblong (34 x 26 cm): printed title and 14 lithographed plates enhanced in color at the time. On one endpaper has been pasted the text by Marquis de Foudras published in "Le Sport" of October 6, 1858 entitled "Histoire Anecdotique de la Vénerie Contemporaine. Current state of Imported Venison in Béarn. Le Drag de Pau". Spotting. Publisher's red percaline, gilt title on cover, framed arabesque decoration in cold, restoration of 2 cloth tears on upper cover, small stains and soiling. An extremely rare satirical album. Drag, a hunt of Anglo-Saxon origin, consisted, in the absence of a live fox, of dragging a corpse across the countryside, then releasing the hounds so that they could find the trace, followed by a whole entourage of veneurs in red livery. One of the plates says: "If the hunt is fiction, the lunch (that follows) is reality! (Thiébaud 631) Provenance: From the library of Mr. Lamothe d'Incamps in Pau (handwritten bookplate and wet stamp).
