Caesar (Julius) C.Iulii Caesaris rerum ab se gestarum commentarii. Parisiis, Vascosan, 1543. In folio : 12f., 128f., 20f. (index). Some large initials engraved by Oronce Fine, an astronomical scholar who depicted himself in bust form in one of them, 2 maps (Gaul and Spain) and 5 woodcut figures in the text (war machines, fortresses) at the beginning of the volume. Worm work affecting the text mainly in the index and worm holes in the outer margin of part of the leaves, slight wetness. Brown speckled contemporary basane, spine ribbed and decorated, accident to head cover, restoration to box and head cover at foot, epidermal marks, restorations to corners at foot, red spotted edges. Provenance: 2 old handwritten bookplates and a printed bookplate Meauldre.
