Contemporary marbled fawn calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red title-pieces, black tomaisons, cold fillet on the boards, a small lack of leather on one board, gilt fillet on the edges, marbled edges. Son of the economist Pieter De La Court and Catharina Van der Voort, the author was a wealthy cloth merchant from Leiden, art collector and gardening connoisseur. In this book he gives all the secrets of gardens, vegetables (forced cultivation), orchards (and the special cultivation of fruit), vines and flowers, but also of fertilizers and greenhouses (the author was the first to grow pineapples in the Netherlands).
