Paris DELAMARE (Nicolas) - [LECLER DU BRILLET (Anne)] A treatise on the Police, in which one will find the history of its establishment, the functions and prerogatives of its magistrates, all the laws and regulations that concern it. Illustrated with 20 vignettes and lettering and 10 folding plans (including the plan of the fountains and water pipes of Paris, and the one representing the growth of Paris under Louis XV by the abbot Delagrive). Contemporary marbled fawn calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red title and endpapers, 3 small lacks on the headpieces, 2 jaws cracked at the feet, triple cold fillet on the boards, gilt roulette on the edges, red edges. A fine copy. Second edition of this monumental work and first great methodical treatise of the French police, first published in 1705. Volume IV "Continuation du Traite de la police... De la voierie" is by Mr LECLER DU BRILLET. The first great methodical treatise of the French police, containing many documents relating to the history of the institutions. (Brunet III, 785). Provenance: Printed bookplate Edmond Marie Houitte de La Chesnais (law graduate, commander of the order of Saint-Grégoire-le-Grand, member of the Academy of Mâcon, born in Paris, March 5, 1846) owned a library of about 10,000 volumes, mainly concerning the history of the Middle Ages, where all the great collections relating to this period were found.
