Maroquin signed Allo DORAT (Claude-Joseph) Fables nouvelles. The Hague ; Paris, Delalain, 1773. 2 parts in one volume in-8: XXII, 1f., 309pp, (3); copy on laid paper, volume I in first printing (with the row of interlaces on page III), and with page XXII correctly paginated. Mostly in first printing (5 illustrations had already appeared in the 1772 edition); 2 frontispieces engraved by de Ghendt, a title vignette with a portrait of La Fontaine, a figure engraved by Delaunay, 99 headpieces and 99 footpieces, engraved by Arrivet, Baquoy, Duflos, Lebeau, Lingée, de Longueil, Née, Ponce, etc. 19th century fawn morocco signed ALLO, spine ribbed and decorated, triple gilt fillet on the boards, double gilt fillet on the edges, gilt edges. A very fine copy. One of the most pleasant books of the 18th century; Marillier's masterpiece, in terms of the finesse of the execution and the spirit that reigns in all the pretty subjects.
