VESALE (André) Opera omnia anatomica & chirurgica cura Hermanni Boerhaave Leiden (Lugduni Batavorum), Du Vivié et Verbeek, 1725. 2 volumes in folio: 21f. 572pp. with frontispiece by Wandelaar and 66 plates / 4f. 577-1156pp. 25f. (table) ; 16 plates out of text. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 82 plates and figures engraved in the text by Jan Wandelaar; the portrait of the author is missing. Minor spotting and grey spots on a few leaves. Contemporary marbled fawn basane, spine ribbed and decorated, red title and black endpapers, double cold fillet on the boards, red speckled edges. Fine restorations to the corners, headpieces and spines. Super libris gilt "Pierre Dr. doctor". First collective edition of Vesalius, published by Herman Boerhaave and Bernhard Siegried Albinus. Beautiful frontispiece representing Vesalius' anatomical theatre. Some of the famous plates show skeletons on a landscape background to which feelings have been imprinted (one reflects on the vanity of things leaning on a stele, the other is armed with a shovel to dig his own grave)(Brunet V, 1151)(Waller 9917).
