Militaria - Russian Leather Copy ALEXANDER (William) Picturesques representations of the Dress and Manners of the Russians. Illustrated in sixty-four coloured engravings, with descriptions. London, Bulmer & Co, 1814. In-8: VI, 2f. ; illustrated with 64 full-page coloured plates of costumes, mirrored text to each plate, colours quite vivid, no foxing. Long-grained Russian leather, spine ribbed and decorated, in the centre of the boards, initials (L O) surrounded by palmettes, the whole surmounted by a crown, large gilt garland in the margins, gilt fillet on the edges, inner scroll, gilt edges, slight rubbing. A fine copy. Work based on Miller's "Costume of the Russian Empire" (itself based on Georgi's work). The first 12 plates represent people of Finnish origin and plates 13 to 35 describe the Tartars. Plates 36 to 50 cover people from Siberia and the East, while the rest represent Mongols and other small tribes from all over the Empire.
