2 volumes in-12: 1f., 199pp. - 1f., 238pp. / 1f., 218pp. - 206pp. ; illustrated with a folding map "Le cours de la rivière des Amazones - Sanson, 1689". Paper browned on part of the work according to the signatures, due to the poor quality of the paper.
Contemporary brown calf, ornate ribbed spine, red title-pieces, headpieces torn off, leather loss on spine, jaws split, rubbing, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, dull corners, gilt roulette on the edges, red edges. Used.
French first edition (1641 first edition in Spanish) of this travel account of the expedition by Pedro Texeira and Cristóbal Diatristán de Acuña to explore the Amazon River from Quito to the east. They were the first Europeans to penetrate so deeply into Indian lands. This French edition is the most complete available, including the rare map of the Amazon River drawn by Sanson d'Abbeville (Sabin 151).
