GIRARD (Bernard de) De l'estat et succez des affaires de France. Paris, Le Mur, 1619. In-8: 1f., 349f., 22f. (table), 1fb. - 130f. (collection of opinions and advice). Minor pagination errors. Old soft vellum, handwritten title on spine, small chip on one cover. The author, seigneur du Haillan, historiographer of France, was the first national historian to abandon the chronicler style. This work, containing "De l'état du succès des affaires de France" and a "Recueil d'avis et conseils sur les affaires d'État tiré des vies de Plutarque", earned him the protection of the Duc d'Anjou, who made him his financial secretary.
