VIRGILE The Aeneid faithfully translated into verse & remarks to each book for the intelligence of history & fable. First part, containing the first six books. Dedicated to monseigneur l'éminentissime Cardinal Mazarin. Seconde partie contenant les six derniers livres par Messire P. Perrin. Paris, Loyson, 1658. 12 books in two parts in 2 volumes in-4: 3f. (including engraved title), 465pp, (1) - 8f. (including engraved title), 463pp, last leaf handwritten. Illustrated with a folding map and 12 mid-page engravings. Some browned leaves. Later glazed fawn calf, ornate ribbed spine, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, gilt fillet on the edges, inner gilt roulette, gilt edges. A good copy. The first verse translation by Pierre Perrin, printed entirely in Pierre Moreau's inventive civil typeface. It is adorned with two engraved titles and 12 very fine engraved mid-page figures, including several by Abraham Bosse, and a fold-out map of the Voyage of Aeneas.
