BERALDI (Henri) - Lot 36
BERALDI (Henri)
One hundred years in the Pyrenees. Paris, 1898-1904.
6/7 volumes large in-8 (volume II missing); vignettes on titles by Charles JOUAS. Edition of 300 copies. Uncut copies.
Paperback, publisher's covers detached with chipping and paper loss, spines with small paper loss; some spines broken. Sold as is.
First edition of the must-have history book, the first to be acquired by every serious bibliophile. It reads like a novel, with an inimitable style: lively, incisive, humorous as hell, he needs less than two sentences to bury the writers he doesn't like, but when he likes, he doesn't count. The 1977 reprint by Les Amis du Livre Pyrénéen is a credit to Beraldi for the quality of its editing. Both are complemented by Jacques Labarère's no less essential Pyrenean bibliography.
