LESPY (Jean Désiré Victor dit Vastin) - Lot 238
LESPY (Jean Désiré Victor dit Vastin) Illustrations of Béarn. Pau, Véronèse, 1856. In-12. Bound in suite: PINÈDE (Alphonse): Nos chercheurs pyrénéens (Oloron, imp. Marque, 1866) - 4pp. ½ crushed black chagrin, gilt title on spine. Rare. Portraits of our celebrities, from Phébus to Bosquet, but also of our Béarn poets such as Despourrins, Fondeville, l'abbé Puyo, Navarrot, etc. Lespy had begun this study by publishing in 1843 in the Bulletin de la S.S.L.A. one of the first writings of the illustrious LESPY, teacher and then general secretary of the prefecture in Pau. Founder and tireless organizer of the Société des Bibliophiles du Béarn, with his friend Paul Raymond, he pushed the art of regional publishing to a high level, and Béarn can be proud of the fine and rare publications due to these two men.
