ITALIAN SCHOOL OF THE BEGINNING OF THE XVI CENTURY Adam, after Masaccio Sanguine 25,4 x 11,5 cm Many lacks in the lower part of the drawing. Insolated, freckled Masaccio (1401-1428) is a painter of the Florentine school and is considered one of the pioneers and greatest painters of the Renaissance. His most famous achievement is the decoration between 1424 and 1427 of the Brancacci Chapel of the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence with the painter Masolino. These frescoes were perceived at the time as revolutionary because of the perspective of the scenes, the expressions and the postures of the characters. At the end of the 15th century, Ghirlandaio recommended his students (including Michelangelo) to go and see these frescoes to copy and be inspired by them. Our drawing was made in the first decades of the 16th century after the figure of Adam in the compartment Adam and Eve chased out of paradise painted by Masaccio.
