Charles SCHNEIDER (1881-1953) GLASS AND HARDWARE MASTER OF A - Lot 339
Charles SCHNEIDER (1881-1953) GLASS AND HARDWARE MASTER OF ART. OLD ROD STEWARD COLLECTION Leaves and fruits of gingko biloba & Arums. Spectacular 4-light pendant. The wrought-iron frame depicts three arcatures with gingko leaf motifs; the fruits of the tree are represented by a multitude of marbled glass beads (pink and yellow) fixed in their centre by wrought-iron rods. The light is diffused by a large central bulging shell and by three tall tulips drawn with pliers evoking arums; these bulb covers made of glass with ochre-yellow and pink interlayers. Circa 1920. Missing a sheet of gingko and a glass ball, slight small accidents scattered on the balls, a very slight splinter on the base of one of the tulips and a small shelling on another, the bolts and nuts of the central crown holding the shell changed, the tip of the shell possibly taken back, electrification not original, used condition. Signed SCHNEIDER with the amphora, in engraving and gilding on the central shell. H.: 95 cm, L.: 75 cm. Provenance: Former Rod Steward Collection (Sotheby's New York Sale, November 18, 1994). Bibliography: Gérard Bertrand - Schneider, master glassmaker Éditions Faton, Dijon, 1995. Our suspension reproduced on page 193.
