ENCYCLOPEDIA DIDEROT (Denis) - d'ALEMBERT (Jean le Rond) Encyclopédie ou Dictionnaire raisonné des Sciences, des Arts et des Métiers, par une société de gens de lettres Genève, Pellet, 1777. 39 volumes in-4 including 3 of plates; illustrated with two portraits (one of Diderot, the other of d'Alembert) by Cochin and engraved by Cathelin, and about 495 copper engravings reproduced on 442 plates out of text (according to the table of the volumes of plates). Without the six volumes of table which are often missing. Contemporary marbled fawn basane, defects of use (some headpieces faded, others torn off, some leather missing on spine and boards, epidermal marks, rubbing, dull corners), red edges. Overall in used condition. Third edition of this monumental publication.
