FLAVIUS JOSEPH - Lot 650
FLAVIUS JOSEPH History of the Jews written under the title of Antiquitez judaïques, translated from the Greek original, reviewed on various manuscripts, by Arnauld d'Andilly. Amsterdam, Schippers ; Welstein, 1681. 2 parts in 1 volume in folio: 11f., 758pp. (table); engraved title frontispiece and 228 mid-page figures. Text on two columns. Stain on engraved title and margins of first few leaves, one endpaper missing. Contemporary brown grained calf, spine ribbed and decorated, rubbing, one bit split, double gilt fillet on the boards, corners dulled, red edges. Work in used condition. Edition of Arnaud d'Andilly's translation sought after for its engravings. The work is especially interesting for what it reports about the events close to the time of its composition and especially about the circumstances and revolts that will lead to the great Jewish revolt of 66-70. Provenance: ex-libris "e bibliotheca ordin un provincialium ducatus megapoliani rostochiensi"
