Memoirs RICHELIEU (Louis-François-Armand, Duke of) Memoirs of the marshal duke of Richelieu... to serve as a history of the courts of Louis XIV, of the regency of the duke of Orleans, of Louis XV, & of the first four years of the reign of Louis XVI. London, de Boffe; Marseille, Mossy; Paris, Buisson, 1790-93. 9 volumes in-8; illustrated with 4 out-of-text frontispiece portraits (including the author's after Vanloo) and 3 others by Masquelier after Nattier, frontispiece by Le Cler engraved by Le Roy, a folding plan of the Port of S. Philippe in the isle of Minorca, a folding plate (Fribourg assiégé) and 2 folding tables (Chronologie ministérielle sous Louis XV et Louis XVI et Généalogie de l'ancienne maison d'Autriche). Contemporary fawn glazed calf, spines smoothly decorated, red title-pieces and tomaisons, triple gilt fillet on the boards, gilt fillet on the edges, small rubs, red edges. Rare and complete first edition of the memoirs of the grand-nephew of Cardinal de Richelieu, published by Jean-Louis Soulavie. There are some very curious original pieces.
