In-8 : XII, 403pp. Contemporary black basane, gilt title on smooth spine, cold fillet on boards, spotting, gilt roulette on edges, spotted edges. French adaptation of a vigorous pamphlet against the Cincinnati. Instituted by Washington in 1783 to honor American and French officers who had distinguished themselves during the Revolutionary War, the Order of Cincinnatus was quickly considered contrary to the principle of equality. With the collaboration of Champfort; gives an account of the pamphlet by Doctor Price, has been augmented with notes by Target. The Order of Cincinnatus, a patriotic society, was instituted by General Washington, April 14, 1783, to reward American and French officers who had taken a glorious part in the Revolutionary War.
