Bayonne MOREL (Félix) Bayonne, historical and descriptive views. Six vignettes by Miss Hélène FEILLET. Bayonne, Lamaignère, June 1836. In-8 : 3f., X, 558pp. 6 lithographed plates. Freckles as often. ½ period tan basane, smooth ornate spine rubbed, marbled edges. First edition, dated June 1836, republished without illustrations in 1846. Bayonne mainly but also Biarritz and Saint Jean de Luz. At the end of the volume, there is an important nomenclature of the flora, fishes and birds of the surroundings (the latter is an extract of a catalogue published in February 1836 in Bordeaux) by Ulysse DARRACQ. Detail of the plates : View of Bayonne - View of the cathedral of Bayonne - View of the Porte d'Espagne - View of the English cemetery - View of the Port Vieux in Biarritz - View of the thermal establishment in Cambo. Ducéré says: "weak and even null, for all that concerns the ancient and modern history until 1789, it is curious for the contemporary period until 1836. There are a few tables of morals that are always cited. Let us note in this respect that the author has indeed "botched" the ancient history in 125 pages to quickly devote himself to the contemporary history which interests him and which takes the lion's share with more than 400 pages.
