EUGÈNE PRINTZ (1879-1948) OF AN IMPORTANT DECORATION MADE BY EUGÈNE PRINTZ IN THE 1930S FOR THE VILLA OF MR X. IN CASABLANCA (MOROCCO) Model presented at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, Paris, 1936 A violet wood veneered chest of drawers with a trapezoidal body, curved sides and a projecting centre; the base is cut out and stepped. The front opens in the middle with a series of three drawers topped by a flap revealing a light wood interior with pigeonholes and drawers and a patinated brass light. The sides each have a solid door. The front and back legs are pointed and end in cut-out shoes, made of patinated brass. Original drawer handles in patinated bronze. Complete with its 3 original keys. Circa 1935. Damage and missing veneer in the lower right corner of the front, used condition. Stamped with the monogram C. P. in a circle in marquetry of wood at the bottom right. H.: 116 cm - L.: 153 cm - W.: 36 cm Provenance : - From a very important decoration made by Eugène Printz in the 1930s for the villa of Mr. X. in Casablanca (Morocco). Also from this set a console table (or desk), of a model identical to the one kept at the Palais de la Porte Dorée (Maréchal Lyautey's oval salon), sold on May 16, 2017 by Tajan in Paris (lot 108), a lacquer panel by Jean Dunand sold, also by Tajan in Paris, on March 19, 2014 (lot 87) and a cabinet by Jules Leleu sold on February 29, 2020 by Me Briscadieu in Bordeaux (lot 145) - Private collection, France.
