AUBIGNÉ (Theodore Agrippa d')] - Lot 485
AUBIGNÉ (Theodore Agrippa d')] Memoirs of the life of Theodore-Agrippa d'Aubigné, ayeul of M. de Maintenon, written by himself. With the memoirs of Frédéric Maurice de La Tour, prince of Sedan. A relation of the Court of France in 1700. Amsterdam, Bernard, 1731. 2 volumes in one in-12. Antique stiff ivory vellum, handwritten title on spine, ownership statement on upper board. Severe criticism of Henry III and his court, of the Catholics, testimony of the anti-protestant climate of the time. When this pamphlet was banned, d'Aubigné fled to Geneva. Frédéric-Maurice de La Tour d'Auvergne was one of the leaders of the Fronde against Richelieu and Louis XIII. His memoirs were composed by his servant.
