With the arms of the duke of Aumont - Lot 504
With the arms of the duke of Aumont [BOURGOING DE VILLEFORE (Joseph-François) Anecdotes or Secret Memoirs on the Constitution Unigenitus. Slne, then Utrecht, Le Fébure, 1730-31. 2 volumes in-12. Contemporary marbled fawn calf, spine ribbed and decorated, one headband faded, red title-pieces, black endpapers, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, arms in the center of the boards, gilt fillet on the edges, inner gilt roulette, corners slightly dulled, gilt edges. A good copy. Drawn up on the Journal de l'abbé Dorsanne, these Memoirs with their exaggerated party spirit and prolix details, were suppressed by a decree of the council of January 26, 1734. Provenance: From the library of Louis-Marie-Augustin, duc d'Aumont with his arms gilt on the boards. He was appointed first gentleman of the chamber, received peer of France, then marshal of camp, knight of the Holy Spirit and lieutenant general. He had a magnificent collection of books. Most of the bindings, made of morocco or marbled calfskin, came from the hands of Padeloup (OHR 364 - iron 1).
