Contemporary marbled fawn basane, spine ribbed and decorated, 2 headpieces damaged, 3 other headpieces damaged, gilt roulette on the edges, red edges. First edition published under this title. After the death (in 1741) of the author, a Jesuit and professor of rhetoric in Lyon, the work was considerably reworked by P. Patouillet (Caillet, 2500). This work, bilingual edition in Latin and French, was one of the major pieces in the cabal set up by the enemies of the Society of Jesus, for its definitive suppression. Edition in-12 published almost simultaneously with the original edition in-quarto.
