COMMINES (Philippe de), knight of Argenton Memoirs on the main deeds of Louys XI and Charles VIII his son, Kings of France. Paris, Foüet, 1615. In folio : 6f., 342pp. Stiff contemporary vellum with cover, handwritten title on spine. Philippe de Commines composed his Memoirs between 1489 and 1498 and deal with the confrontation between the Duke of Burgundy and Louis XI as well as the first Italian expedition in which he participated. In addition to the chronicle of events, Commines justifies his commitments and develops his thoughts on political action (Tchémerzine II, 470).
