Paris - Lot 526
Paris CORROZET (Gilles) - BONFONS (Nicolas) Les Fastes Antiquitez et choses plus remarquables de Paris. Work of curious & diligent research, divided into four books. Paris, Bonfons, 1605. In-8 : 16f., 336f. ; illustrated with woodcuts outside the text by Jean Rabel representing royal and princely tombs integrated throughout the work. Light stain on part of the book, short margin at the head. Eighteenth century brown calf, spine ribbed and ornamented, head cap shaved, torn off at the foot, gilt roulette on the edges, corners dulled, red edges. New edition enlarged and recast by the son of Nicolas Bonfons. The Fastes are not simply a revised edition of Gilles Corrozet's Antiquitez, the work has been deeply reworked to give it a character of precision that it did not have yet; the poetic epitaphs that accompanied them have been removed: only those having a historical character have been kept. Pierre Bonfons indicates that he referred to Etienne Pasquier's Recherches de la France for the details concerning the history of the Parliament. The chronicle of historical events runs until 1595.
