DAVILA (Enrico Caterino) History of the Civil Wars of France containing all that happened of more memorable under the reign of four kings, François II, Charles IX, Henry III and Henry IV nicknamed The Great until the Peace of Vervins inclusively. Paris, Rocolet, 1644. 2 volumes in folio. Illustrated with an engraved allegorical title and a portrait of the author. Contemporary fawn calf, spine ribbed and decorated, headpieces missing or restored, one bit split, 2 others cracked at the entrances, plates in the Duseuil style with fleurons in the spandrels, epidermures. Condition of use. The work, divided into fifteen books, is the most remarkable written on this period. Provenance: From the library of Pierre Michel with his printed bookplate.
