DESORMEAUX (Joseph-Louis-Ripault) History of the House of Montmorenci. The house of Montmorency was one of the most prestigious families of the French nobility. At the end of the 10th century, it took possession of the town of Montmorency, in the current department of Val-d'Oise in the Île-de-France region, and took its name. The House of Montmorency gave France six constables (including the most illustrious Anne de Montmorency, symbol of the French Renaissance, close friend of Kings François I and Henri II), twelve marshals, four admirals, a cardinal of the Catholic Church, a viceroy of New France, peers of France, governors and other personalities from the 11th to the 19th century. Albéric de Montmorency, Constable of France around 1060, was the first of the Montmorency family to hold this office, which was the highest in the military field.
