Encyclopedia DIDEROT (Denis) - D'ALEMBERT (Jean) Encyclopedia or reasoned dictionary of sciences, arts and crafts. Geneva, Pellet, 1777-79. 39 volumes in-4 (36 volumes of text and 3 of plates); a complete copy of its engraved plates (collated in accordance with the tables), many on double-pages or folding. Some folding tables out of text are distributed in the volumes of text. Portraits of Diderot and d'Alembert engraved by Cochin at the opening of the first volume. Contemporary marbled fawn basane, spine ribbed and decorated, some headbands faded, some spines cracked, cold fillet framing the boards, rubbing and small epidermal marks, some dull corners, small leather tears, double gilt fillet on the edges, marbled edges. Third edition. Copy without the six volumes of table which were printed in Lyon in 1780, and which are often missing (Brunet II, 701)(Tchemerzine II, 927).
