Lyon, Rouille, 1557. 2 works in one volume in folio : 312pp, 27f, 1fb. - 55pp. 1fb. 20f. 5f. illustrated with numerous woodcut medals and 47 figures, 5 of which are full-page (37 full-page woodcuts (Castrametation), complete with the large folding table representing the figure of the Roman camp, and 3 full-page woodcuts (traité des bains)) all by Pierre Eskrich. An old manuscript bookplate crossed out. Bound in stained 18th century vellum decorated with polychrome stains, black title on spine, blue speckled edges. Good edition of the famous Discourses of the "antiquarian" and scholar Du Choul. Illustrated with full-page figures in the text (Treaty of castration) representing Roman soldiers, military signs, helmets, emblems, baths and toilet instruments (Treaty of the baths). First edition of the Discourse of Religion and third edition for the Castrametation which is essentially a commentary of plates on the Roman army The first edition appeared at Rouillé in 1555 (Brunet II, 858)(Adams I, 1025).
