DUHAMEL du MONCEAU (Henri Louis) Traité de la Conservation des Grains, et en Particulier du Froment. Paris, Guérin ; Delatour, 1753. In 12; 12 numbered folding plates. Engraved by Pheulland. Contemporary marbled fawn calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red title page, gilt fillet on the edges, small bump on one cut, spotting, red edges. Rare first edition. In this treatise, Duhamel advocates storage in large heated and ventilated silos. This inspector of the navy, botanist and agronomist born in Paris in 1700, was concerned throughout his career to see his research put into practice and useful to all. The land he owned in the Gâtinais served as a field of experience. He contributed to modernize agriculture considerably. A "Supplement to the Treatise on the Conservation of Grain with several agricultural memoirs addressed to the author" was also published by Guérin and Delatour, 1765.
