Ireland MAC-GEORGHEGAN (James), abbot History of ancient and modern Ireland, drawn from the most authentic monumens. Paris, Boudet, 1758-63. 3 volumes in-4; illustrated with a map of ancient Ireland and 4 folding plates of Provinces and a color outline map of the Kingdom of Ireland, all by Robert de Vaugondy. Contemporary tan granite calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red title-pieces, tan endpapers, one bump to one headpiece, a second one damaged, double gilt fillet on the edges, small leather tears on the edges and corners, corners dulled. Uncommon first edition The work is divided into three parts: - Pagan Ireland, from "the settlement of the Scoto-Milesians in Ireland until the fifth century" - Christian Ireland (from the fifth century until the arrival of the English and from the end of the twelfth, then from the thirteenth century until the death of Queen Elizabeth) - Précis of the History of the Four Stuarts (from James VI, King of Scotland, until the end of the seventeenth century).
