MOLIÈRE (Jean-Baptiste POQUELIN said) Works. New edition. Paris, se., 1734 6 volumes in-4; illustrated with a portrait of Molière by Coypel engraved by Lépicie, 33 plates out of text by Laurent Cars after Boucher, and more than 190 headbands and tailpieces, several of which are repeated. Beautiful margins. Copy of the first printing (with the mistake "comteese" on p. 360 of volume VI which was corrected in the second printing, and the name "Zaide" instead of "Chimène" on p. 132 of volume IV,) Contemporary fawn glazed calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red title-pieces, black end-pieces, some headpieces restored, cold fillet framing the boards, double gilt fillet on the edges, inner scroll, red edges. Nice copy. "Boucher's masterpiece as an illustration and probably the most beautiful illustrated edition of Molière's theater; it is one of the most beautiful books of the first part of the 18th century" (Cohen). A first edition copy on laid paper with good margins (Tchemerzine IV, 827) (Brunet III, 1798). Provenance : Printed bookplate Jean-Paul Malpuech.
