Pontii Meropii Paulini Nolani Episcopi Opera Digesta Paris, Courterot & Guérin, 1685. 2 volumes in one in-4 : 8pp. 324pp. 190pp. - 148pp. and 239pp. illustrated with a frontispiece portrait engraved by Larmessin. Paulinus of Nole (Bordeaux, circa 353 - Nole, 431), Gallo-Roman aristocrat and poet who, after a brilliant political career, embraced a religious life by becoming a priest and then bishop of Nole. He is in his time the emblematic example of an aristocratic conversion to Christian asceticism. An important figure in the late Roman Empire marked by barbarian invasions and the revival of paganism around 390, Paulin is venerated by the Catholic and Orthodox Churches as a saint.
