[BORDEAUX PRESS - COLLECTIVE] - Lot 136
[BORDEAUX PRESS - COLLECTIVE] La Ruche d'Aquitaine, journal of literature and science. Bordeaux, Racle, 1817-1819. 4 volumes in-8 of 12 publications each. ½ green calf of the time, spines smoothly decorated, marbled edges. A good copy. Rare collection of the Bordeaux bi-monthly literary journal founded by Edmond Géraud (1775-1831), a Bordeaux literary scholar from a family of merchants and shipowners. It is a journal of "literature and sciences", far from the "Parisian cabals", in which politics is excluded. The magazine was based on literature, poetry, travel stories, news from Bordeaux and its region. "La Ruche bordelaise" will be transformed in 1819 into a daily newspaper of royalist tendency "political, literary and commercial newspaper of the city of Bordeaux", thanks to the suppression of the censorship. The publication will stop in 1823. An interesting copy for the history of the Bordeaux press after the Revolution.
