Autograph - Lot-et-Garonne - Empire LACÉPÈDE (Bernard Germain de) Autograph letter signed intended for Cambaceres, President of the Chamber of the Peers. Correspondence written during the Hundred Days. Superb text mentioning his attachment to the Emperor and the promises of this one. Dated May 27, 1815, signed Cte de Lacépède. In-4, 24 lines in black ink on laid paper. Bernard Germain Étienne de Laville-sur-Illon, comte de Lacépède, born on December 26, 175 in Agen (Lot-et-Garonne) and died on October 6, 1825 in Épinay-sur-Seine (Seine), zoologist and French politician. He collaborated with Buffon's Histoire Naturelle and published many works in this field, especially on marine fauna. He published, in 1788-89, his Histoire naturelle des quadrupèdes ovipares et des serpens. This was the first large-scale work on amphibians and reptiles intended for a wide audience. On August 14, 1803, he was appointed as the first Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor. He was later appointed president of the Senate twice.
