Cartography - Lot 417
Paris, Imprimerie Royale, 1829. In-4, without the large folding map "Trigonometric of the western coasts of France by M. Daussy". Red wet stamp. ½ tan calf, smooth spine, gilt filets, burgundy title page, leather lacks to head and foot boards, boards detached. The engineer Beautemps-Beaupré embarked on La Recherche under the orders of Entrecasteaux as the first hydrographic engineer, to go in search of La Pérouse. He took advantage of this expedition to survey the coasts of the countries he visited and experimented with new methods of surveying which made him the father of modern hydrography.
