FROMENT MEURICE
mid-19th century, part of a chatelaine, transformed into a brooch, in silver and vermeil, cast, chased and enameled. Two cherubs hold an opal in a ribbon knot, surmounted by a pearl, the center is embellished with a faceted oval Madeira citrine underlined by a garland of foliage and pearls in fall, the bottom of the brooch is adorned with a blue enameled drape holding in pendeloque a green enameled vine leaf and three pearls 41.7 g. The back is engraved Froment Meurice, and the brooch is swan-punched in two places. Dimensions: 6.1 x 5.2 cm. Brooch pin added, restorations. The motif of cherubs facing each other is often found in Froment Meurice pieces, notably on the bracelet for the 1844 Industrial Products Exhibition, for which François-Désiré won a gold medal.
