Medicine [ACADÉMIE de CHIRURGIE] Recueil des pièces qui ont concouru pour le prix de l'Académie Royale de Chirurgie. Paris, Delaguette, 1753-57 (then) Le Prieur 1759 (then) Lambert 1778. 13 volumes in-12, Contemporary marbled fawn calf, ornate ribbed spines, small leather loss to 2 headpieces, gilt fillet on edges, red edges. Every year, the Royal Academy of Surgery proposed a question for a prize to train its students: the general cure of tumors, the amputation of mammary carcinoma, emollient remedies, desiccants and caustics, and fistulas. In 1731, surgeons Georges Mareschal (confidant of Louis XIV) and François Gigot de la Peyronie (surgeon to King Louis XV) founded the Académie Royale de Chirurgie, which closed in 1793.
