Lyon, Rouille, 1557. 2 works in one folio volume: 312pp. 27f. 1fb. - 55pp. 1fb. 20f. 5f. illustrated with numerous woodcut medals and 47 figures, 5 of which are full-page (37 full-page woodcuts (Castramétation), complete with large fold-out table showing the figure of the Roman camp, and 3 full-page woodcuts (Traité des bains)), all by Pierre Eskrich. An old handwritten bookplate crossed out. Bound in stained 18th-century vellum, decorated with polychrome stains, black title page on spine, blue speckled edges. Good edition of the famous Discourses of the "antiquarian" and scholar Du Choul. Illustrated with full-page figures in the text (Traite de la castramétation) depicting Roman soldiers, military ensigns, helmets, emblems, thermal baths and toilet instruments (Traité des bains). First edition of the Discourse on Religion, and third edition of Castrametation, which is essentially a commentary of plates on the Roman army. The first edition appeared with Rouillé in 1555 (Brunet II, 858)(Adams I, 1025).
