Guillaume de Jaligny was secretary to Duke Pierre II of Bourbon. Charles VIII's reign was marked by the war against Italy (1494-97). Appointed King of Naples in 1494, he conquered Florence and Rome, and it was at this time that the League of Venice was formed, an alliance of Italian states against France.
