Amsterdam, Bordesius, 1711. 6 volumes in-12; illustrated with an engraved false title (featuring Rabelais in his library) engraved by W. de Broen, a portrait of the author engraved by the same artist, a fold-out map of the Chinonois region and 3 fold-out plates. Traces of worms in the foot margins (volume III) and on part of the leaves in the foot margin (volume V). Volume 6 retraces the Prognostication Pantagrueline, l'Epistre du Limousin, la Chresme philosophale, Deux Epistres et un Alphabet de l'auteur français and tables. Numerous 2-column footnotes. Contemporary speckled fawn calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red title-pieces, 3 damaged headpieces, one with a small accident. Volumes I and VI have slightly different bindings from the other volumes (recomposed copy), but are nevertheless from the same edition. New edition with added historical & critical remarks, the True Portrait of Rabelais; the map of the Chinonnois region; the design of the painted cellar & various views of La Devinière, the author's Métairie. First critical edition by Jacob Le Duchat and Bernard de la Monnoye. The Alphabet (in Volume VI) uses Rabelaisian terminology, specifying their Greek or Latin etymology, meaning and placement in the text.
