In-8: 3f., XVI, 335pp. Minor spotting in places. Monogrammed wet stamp.
Contemporary green ½ chagrin, gilt title and fillet on smooth spine.
First edition published the same year as the introductory work to the "Système Universel". Pursued during the 18 fructidor, AZAIS found refuge in the Tarbes hospital. It was here that he conceived this "system of compensations" between good and evil, a manifestation of "providential justice". Although published late, this philosophical system, approved by Napoleon, had an influence on his time: 5 editions and a special chapter in the 19th-century Grand Larousse Universel.
