In-4; with the "Obscoena" section. One vignette in the text and one plate out of text.
Contemporary red morocco, smooth ornate spine, Lamoignon Malesherbes numeral at foot of spine, Curante Souchay 1730 also at foot, slight crack at beginning of head of spine, triple gilt fillet framing boards, double gilt fillet on edges, slight rubbing, interior gilt roulette, gilt edges. Small stain on upper board. A fine copy, however.
Brunet's most esteemed edition.
Provenance: A copy from the Lamoignon Malesherbes library, with his number at the foot of the spine and a printed ex-libris "Bibliotheca Lamoniana", a handwritten number in black ink on the flyleaf (2 M 129) and a crowned "L" wetstamp in the margin of page 3.
Chrétien-Guillaume de Lamoignon de Malesherbes (1721-1794), French magistrate, botanist and statesman, who possessed a sumptuous library.
