Bordeaux - Lot 291
Bordeaux BAYSSELANCE (Adrien) Bordeaux. Historical Overview, Soil, Population, Industry, Commerce, Administration. Published by the Municipality of Bordeaux. Paris, Hachette ; Bordeaux, Féret, 1892. 4 volumes (3 tomes and an atlas) in-4; Bordeaux city coat of arms color frontispiece, 28 plates and maps including one in color (jurats' costumes), mostly double-page spreads. ½ red chagrin, ornate ribbed spine, red percaline boards with depigmentation, sextuple gilt fillet framing the boards with large fleurons in spandrels, gilt arms of the city of Bordeaux in the centers of the boards, gilt edges. A fine copy. A good work, a true general statistic of Bordeaux. Contributors to this major undertaking, under the direction of Adrien Baysselance, mayor of Bordeaux, included: Bonnet, Hennequin, C. Jullian, Dukacinski, Drouyn, Bourciez, Gaullieur, Lalanne, Brutails and others. As a Pyrenean climber, the same A. Baysselance was assiduously involved with the Bordeaux section of the C.A.F., and was responsible for guiding and maintaining the Pyrenean refuges, which were few in number at the time. He left his name to one of these glorious "locomotives", now enlarged at the foot of the Vignemale.
