Copy with "Essai de complément de la statistique du département de la Gironde" in 1847, not listed in the B.N. catalog, but present here. The 19th century saw the flowering of these important regional statistics, ordered by the prefectures on the basis of government directives, a precious tool for the administrator of the time and for today's historian. It was in 1818 that the Prefect of Gironde asked Jouannet to draw up these statistics. He worked on it for 2 years, but as the material was insufficient, he set off on foot across the department, and for many years collected the data he would use to publish this work. Born in 1765, he was a teacher, printer, journalist, poet, musician, numismatist, museum curator, librarian and naturalist.

Bordeaux, Féret ; Paris, Masson ; Guillaumin & Cie, 1878 [With] Statistique Générale du Département de la Gironde. III, première Partie, Biographies. Bordeaux, Féret ; Paris, Masson, Lechevalier, 1889.
2 volumes in-8. Minor spotting in places and small pencil notes in margins.
Contemporary ½ red chagrin, spine ribbed and decorated, rubbing, spidering and staining at foot of spine and spine ends, minor soiling on red percaline boards (Volume I) - contemporary ½ fawn basane, smooth spine, black title page, gilt fillets and tomaisons.
Precious biographical documentation that goes far beyond the Gironde and even the South-West. This biography volume of the important statistical work, which comprises 3 volumes published between 1874 and 1889, is perfectly complete in itself. The first volume, published in 1878, covered topography, science, agriculture, industry, commerce and administration; the second, published four years later, was devoted to communes, with a classification of wines. It took a further ten years to complete the third volume, the most extensive in terms of research, and which required more than thirty contributors, including Jules DELPIT, Philippe-Louis BORDES-DE-FORTAGE and Charles MARIONNEAU.
Set of 6 volumes.
