2 volumes in-4; 13 plates out of text, including fold-outs (12 + 1). Worm marks in margins of a few leaves, light stain in outer margin at beginning of volume II, a few leaves browned, scattered foxing.
Contemporary fawn granite calf, ornate spine ribbed, red title-pieces, small leather loss to a headband, triple cold fillet framing the boards, double gilt fillet on the edges, red edges.
Jean-Baptiste de la Quintinye was a celebrated French gardener and agronomist, who worked on the gardens of the great personalities of the day (Nicolas Fouquet, the Prince de Condé, the Duc de Montausier, Colbert).
Louis XIV entrusted him with the management of his fruit and vegetable gardens. The 2nd volume includes Traité des orangers, de la culture des fleurs, de la culture des melons and L'art de tailler les arbres fruitiers.
