Paris, Houssiaux, 1855. 20 volumes in-8: Steel-engraved portrait by BERTALL, wood-engraved vignettes by MEISSONIER, JOHANNOT out of text (not collated). Scattered foxing. Contemporary ½ brown chagrin, gilt titles and tomaisons on spine ribs, rubs from use, accidents to 3 headpieces, a small snag on one spine. As is. "Textual reprint of the Furne edition (1842-1848), but augmented with a notice by George Sand, a portrait of Balzac and three volumes forming volumes XVIII, XIX, XX". The Houssiaux edition should include 154 engravings; complete copies are like Daudet's heroine: On en parle toujours mais on ne la voit jamais (to be collated).
