22 volumes in-8. A 23rd volume without a tomaison but in similar binding is titled "Justification de quelques passages des IVe et Ve volumes de l'Histoire d'Angleterre" (1827) is appended to the series.
½ green chagrin with period fillets, spines with ornate false nerfs sunned. A good copy.
This controversial history immediately aroused immense opposition in England, as Lingard attempts to demonstrate that the Reformation and its aftermath had been a calamity for the Kingdom.
