5 volumes in-4; 64 plates and maps out of text (8, 1, 4, 3, 43 and 3 folding maps ("Carte ou sont tracées les routes de M. Bruce", "Carte du Golfe d'Arabie", "Carte de l'extrémité Méridionale de l'Afrique"), small discharges from plates,. The plates in the last volume are botanical and natural history plates. Fine margins.

Provenance: Monogram of the 1st Earl of Lonsdale (1757-1844).
William Lowther, Earl of Lonsdale, owned the magnificent castle of Lowther, near Penrith, corroborating the location of the bookbinder Wheightman (Penrith).
Bookplate Hugh Cecil Earl of Lonsdale, Hugh Cecil Lowther, 5th Earl of Lonsdale, (1857-1944).
This work is certain to have come from the Lowther Castle Library, which was the subject of several sales in 1922, 1937 and 1947.
