Scattered foxing. ½ period fawn calf, ornate smooth spines, blond title-pieces, black tomaisons, small leather losses at the spines, light rubbing. Sent to China in 1844 by the Mulhouse Chamber of Commerce, he accompanied the Théodore de Lagrené mission as representative of the interests of the Alsatian textile industry. Also included: LAVOLLÉE (Charles): Voyage en Chine. Paris, Rouvier, 1852. In-8, printed bookplate number DMC to be identified. ½ green contemporary chagrin, spine ribbed and decorated, rubbing at head, minor rubbing at edges. Lavallée describes Canton and the Chinese ports, as well as his slaves in Tenerife, Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town, Bourbon Island, Singapore, Malacca, Manila and Macao. Chapter II is devoted to Rio-de-Janeiro (harbor, city, government, promenades, slave trade, sale of slaves, Rio carnival, etc.). Set of 4 volumes.
